If you aren’t an asshole, it wasn’t for you.
Soooooo, I received an email last night from a reader of mine who was outraged that I had sent her this letter.
Of course, this wasn’t really a letter at all. It was a blog post. This reader opened her email and mistakenly thought I had written the hypothetical fake letter to her. She could not understand why I would say such hateful things to her, after she had been reading my blog for so long.
I explained to her that since she was subscribed to my blog, she got “the asshole letter post” emailed to her, like she got all my other nonsense posts emailed to her.
After a couple of back and forths, I am pretty sure I cleared things up. Unfortunately, she still chose to unsubscribe from my blog. And although this makes me sad, its certainly her choice and I respect that.
I also want to point out that even though I deeply disagree with her opinion, this letter was not directed towards Texan Mama, the author of the original post over at Scary Mommy.
It was a hypothetical letter directed towards the general wave of gay bullying and anti-gay sentiments that have been popping up all over the country.
And I am not just saying this because I will be attending a blog conference with Texan Mama and possibly be seated at a table with her for 8 hours and oh my god what if I get my ass kicked.
Now, for the rest of you! If we are real life friends, or you are subscribed to my blog, you should probably know by now that most some of my posts contain strong opinions peppered with colorful language.
And while I am a huge pussy rarely confrontational, if I see someone being put down or discriminated against, I will cut a bitch. Because? That’s who I am. And I refuse to apologize for that.
But, I am sorry if anyone else thought this letter was directed towards them.
Because it wasn’t.
Unless you are an asshole.
And then it was.
This is confusing.
I love you guys.
Now watch this.
